  • The Philadelphia Marriott Downtown Hotel, 1201 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
In January, thousands of archaeologists, philologists, students, archaeology enthusiasts, and Archaeology magazine subscribers from the US, Canada, and 35 other countries will gather at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott Hotel to participate in the 113th AIA-APA Joint Annual Meeting. The four-day program will feature, academic sessions that present the latest research from the field; workshops in which participants discuss and present new technologies, innovative site preservation strategies, and the latest discoveries; and presidential plenary sessions organized by AIA and APA leadership.

In addition to the academic sessions and workshops, the meeting will host professional development sessions including, a session on obtaining funding for research presented by representatives of various granting agencies and a workshop on publishing strategies presented by representatives of the many publishing houses that exhibit at the meeting.

Several special events will focus on archaeology both locally and globally and provide networking opportunities for attendees. The AIA and APA will host a Placement Service for institutions advertising positions and candidates seeking them. Roundtable discussions will facilitate networking among professionals who share similar interests and face similar challenges. Other networking opportunities include the many meetings of affiliated groups and receptions hosted by various attending organizations.

The exhibit hall will once again feature the fields' leading publishers and vendors and provide attendees with the opportunity to browse and purchase the latest books from a variety of publishers, specialty tools for the field, and a chance to visit with representatives of granting and academic institutions. The AIA Archaeology Fair, a public outreach program that features interactive archaeological activities and programs for people of all ages, is open to all meeting attendees, members of the public, and their families. The meeting will even include a dramatic (and entertaining) performance by the Committee on Ancient and Modern Performance.
