Our speaker, Attorney and Archaeologist, Ryan Seidemann, Chief of the Lands & Natural Resources Section at the Louisiana Department of Justice, will discuss the threats of both environmental changes and developmental endeavors to human burials and the problems associated with protecting these sacred places. We will explore past and future efforts to protect burials grounds from various threats and how to address these historic places which lie outside of the traditional notions of integrity and historic significance. The webinar will discuss issues of looting; slavery ancestral burial grounds; Native American burial grounds; and environmental challenges to preservation efforts.
