RESTITUTION ROULETTE: THE RECOVERY OF HOLOCAUST-ERA LOOTED ART

The recovery of Holocaust-era looted art has occupied the legal profession, journalists, and virtually every aspect of the art trade since the 1990s. Little heard today, the earliest case in the United States is a New York State court case involving a Chagall. Newspaper headlines record only the million dollar and larger settlements. But, legal issues are far deeper than headlines. Holocaust-era looted art trials include virtually every aspect of United States and International Law. The specific law applied is critical to issues of restitution. Dr. Roussin discusses the ways of documenting ownership as well as recent cases while analyzing how the law has affected restitution - or no

restitution.
